The Challenge

Owned by a school operator, Kneller Hall is a beautiful, vacant, Grade II listed mansion building and former barracks set within 24 acres in Whitton, the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames. The site was bought with the aim of converting the building into a senior school. The owners approached Location Collective with the task of occupying the site by facilitating filming and production space hires whilst they awaited permission to start redevelopment.

Solution

The Agency team at Location Collective had a short window of time (less than 6 months) to facilitate hires. Our three Agency team divisions, Express (who handle all commercials, stills and unscripted TV projects), Locations (working on feature films and scripted shows), Production (who source set-build and production support space opportunities) worked collaboratively to secure a variety of bookings during the available period. After extensive marketing to our large database of production contacts and targeted outreach to fast turnaround productions, we were able to secure multiple high calibre TV drama, music video and production space hires at the location. Credits include: The Gold, Mimi Webb’s House on Fire Music Video, Call the Midwife and The Test. As a long running BBC drama, Call the Midwife utilised Kneller Hall as a principle location, doubling the accommodation block as a hospital and a 1960’s building as an entertainment dance hall. Location Collective worked with the location owner’s planning team to secure a temporary change of use for the duration of the Call the Midwife hire.
