The Challenge
Early last year, we were challenged by Sky’s new and highly anticipated high-end TV drama Gangs of London to uncover a ‘magic room’; a never before seen on screen space to feature in the series’ final episode. At that time, Tottenham Hotspur Football Club had just completed a three and a half year build of their new stadium. Internal stakeholders within the club’s commercialisation team had never taken on a complex filming hire at the new ground. At the end of a gruelling period delivering this high-profile construction project on an unprecedented time frame, allowing a production like Gangs of London on site was a big step into the unknown for them. However, the concrete lobby of the unfinished hotel shell within the main stadium estate perfectly fit Gangs of London’s brief.

Solution
Location Collective quickly engaged the Tottenham Hotspur team on Gangs of London’s behalf, agreeing and then putting into action a ‘high resource / high communication’ strategy to ensure that expectations of both owner and production were proactively managed, and that this ‘filming first’ went as smoothly as possible.
In the end, Gangs of London’s hire spanned two weeks (including a two-day period during which the stadium bowl was active), with three separate areas across the stadium campus being dressed and shot.
The shoot was delivered successfully, with significant revenue generated and a lot of great learnings for future hires gleaned by the Tottenham Hotspur and Location Collective teams.
I have been hugely impressed by the Location Collective team. The London shoot went exceptionally smoothly. Our Account Manager was able to quickly develop a good relationship and successfully engage with a number of senior operational management at the stadium, which was not an easy task given the demands of operating a brand new stadium at that time. He was always polite but very clear on what was needed, was very thorough and also made sure that all parties were well informed at all times. The whole process was completely seamless.
