From working men’s club to film favourite
When we first met the team at Peckham Liberal Club in the summer of 2016, they urgently needed to raise significant funds to save the venue from sale. With its retro features and classic working men’s club feel, very little imagination was needed to see how brilliantly it could work as a film location.
Location Collective worked closely with the club’s secretary and long-serving team to open the venue’s doors to the production world and put Peckham Liberal Club on the map for filming. The venue has secured hires from high profile productions including Grantchester, The Current War, In The Long Run, Humans and The Capture, as well as featuring heavily in Elton John biopic Rocketman. Peckham has also been a film favourite of commercials and music promos. To date, filming and photography has generated £150k in revenue, changing the fate of the club and raising its profile within the community.
Location Collective helped us realise there were ways to make money from the club that we would never have considered. The team there have been great. They are on the side of the club, making sure we get considered for anything that might work, and the team there always make sure we are looked after. The club would be in a very different position without all their hard work.
