The Challenge

When Galliard Homes purchased the former Honey Monster Foods Factory in Southall, they began their planning process to redevelop the site. During this time they were keen that any expenditure was kept to a minimum, but wanted to explore revenue generating opportunities to keep the site cost neutral and, ideally, help generate income.

Solution

The Location Collective team quickly and cost effectively transformed the 11-acre site into the UK’s largest production playground. Its 55,000 sqft warehouse was soundproofed and draped to transform it into a film studio, and the office floors were reinstated as production desk space, art department areas and dressing rooms. With plenty of exterior hard-standing, great rooftops, and corridors and factory floors which made for great front-of-camera filming locations, The Monster Building became a popular choice for film productions.

We quickly generated a series of short-term filming hires from productions as diverse as: Luther, Pokemon: Detective Pikachu, Saturday Night Takeaway, Silent Witness and Humans. Within months we had secured a nine-month hire from Sky/Sky Atlantic who took up residence for their TV drama Temple. This was immediately followed by a three-month hire by Avalon Pictures, providing 100% occupancy over a 12-month period.

Location Collective have been extremely proactive in generating filming interest for the former Honey Monster Foods Factory, and have been effective and efficient in making the site ready for film use. I hope this is the first of many projects Galliard Homes will work with them on.
