Challenge
When we first met the ExCeL team in 2013 they were keen to accommodate more filming alongside events to generate additional revenue during gaps in their calendar. However, filming was outside of their area of expertise and they were unsure of how to put together a rate card or promote their new filming proposition to the industry. As a result, they were generating only £25k annually from filming.
.
Solution
Location Collective worked closely with the ExCeL events team to create a film friendly rate card better suited to the budgets of film productions than the venue’s usual exhibition rates. By marketing our new, film friendly package to the film industry we quickly generated a healthy pipeline of filming interest for the site. In the first year of managing filming for ExCeL, we generated £238k in filming revenue, over nine times what had been achieved in previous years.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, when the events industry completely shut down, Location Collective collaborated with the ExCeL events team to utilise the venue as an alternative film studio facility, securing hires from multiple high-profile productions and generating over £3m in filming revenue.
To date, we have generated over £4.5m in filming revenue with productions shooting at ExCeL including Humans, Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, Black Mirror, Silent Witness, Lucky Man, Paddington 2 and Avengers Age of Ultron.
